8 Bit Computers

Chris Curry initially worked for Clive Sinclair in Sinclair Radionics. Following a series of financial losses, control of Sinclair Radionics was lost and the Nationa Enterprise Board took over. Chris Curry was encouraged to leave Sinclair Radionics and set up Science of Cambridge which, up to them, had been a company owned by Sir Clive but with no assets, staff or location. There occurred a very public falling out between Sir Clive and Chris Curry over the further development of the Sinclair Mk14 computer.

Hermann Hauser had also become interested in the Mk14 project and saw a future in developing and selling home computers so in Dec 1978 they set up Cambridge Processor Unit. From these beginnings, a wide range of very powerful home computers were developed with their high point being the development of the BBC Micro which supported the BBC's computer literacy programme. At one time, there would have been few schools not equipped with the BBC Model B computer.
